I had a successful trip to the Shenandoah National Park over the weekend. The '85 Westy ran well posting good gas mileage (20.9mpg down and 22.5mpg back). Once again, I have seen the mileage benefits of the non-oxygenated gas. In Delaware, we are stuck with the oxygenated variety to reduce smog, and yet we are burning 8% more fuel to get there! Makes no sense to me. Other than the general lack of hill climbing power due to the tired 1.9l engine, there were no problems. (I remember flying up those same hills with my '86 GL the year before.) This was the first 200+ mile trip (one-way) for me with this Vanagon since purchasing it late last summer. So far, so good. It prefers the I-95 type driving. It books right along at 62 to 65 mph. The odometer calculates to be 4% fast, but that still yields 20.1 and 21.6mpg. I was pretty happy with that, especially with the original motor and heads with ~130,000 miles on them. I would like to install an oil cooler on this engine. Any suggestions?

Jay
