Subject: '90 GL fuel/throttle problems?
Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII

Hi there-

I'm fairly new to this list so please excuse me and my '90 GL for any breaches of list etiquette...

I've been experiencing an intermittent problem with my van. Sometimes if I let off pressure on the accelerator while driving and then apply more pressure it feels as if the engine is isn't getting fuel (or an incorrect fuel/air mixture, or something). The result is that the engine stutters and barely runs until I either let off on the pedal again and apply pressure very slowy. On one occasion I when this was happening I stopped at the next exit and the van stopped and took quite a while to get started again. Like I said, this happens randomly...maybe once/month (and I drive around 2000miles/month), almost always while I'm on a highway. And it always goes away on its own.

Anyhow, I'm new to this VW thing, so I don't know what to start working on? Probably not the fuel filter or pump. Is there some pressure sensor that might be the culprit? I spent the first 8 years of my driving life with 1970's Chevy Vans and unfortunately not much of that knowledge is transferring to my VW...

Thanks for any assistance!
