Subject: New Guy Asks: Vredestein All Seasons for 84 Westy? Info?
              Opinions?
Content-Type: text/plain

Hi:

I'm sorta new to the list, lurked a bit on archives. I'm 4+ years into my first Westy/Vanagon/VW ownership and still learning things. Use the brick beast primarily in summers as our all around transport and camp vehicle bar none. Also makes an excellent bird blind!

I'm needing 4 new tires. I'm getting rid of stock (185R14) 8-ply rated Avon Supervan tires. Garbage. Had a treadwear warranty, a good thing since it took two sets to come even close to making the warranty limit (40K I think). Read the vanagon web page suggestions, looked around and found the reinforced sidewall Michelins (MXTs) at my local discount tire. They also mentioned a Vredestein Transport tire, reinforced sidewall, stock size, slightly cheaper, 8 ply rating (don't know about the ply rating of the Michelin). I looked up the Vredestein tire on their site and it sounds like a good tire for transporters (which is how they sell it; I think the graphic displays the tire on a Vanagon). Good load ratings(102/100), a concern for me with a Westy that is usually loaded to the max. I used to have Vredestein Snows on one of my Subarus and they were the best snow tires I've ever had!

My question is: Does anyone have any experience with all season Vredesteins? I only found a few references in the Archive and they were to the Vredestein snow tires. Thanks in advance for any advice.
