The Westies didn't have the additional soundproofing like the reg Vanagons. I covered the engine deck with carpet squares made for large computer rooms. They are 2'x2' squares with a heavy rubber backing. When I haul lumber, etc., I put a long piece of heavy cardboard over the entire bed area. I have hauled enough lumber for over 100' of 6' fence. That's over 200 6'x6" cedar boards plus rails and 4x4 posts. No damage to the mattress or bed. The rest of the time, I just keep an old sheet over the mattress. Re when are you out of propane? Yes. No. There are stick-on indicators for the tank that have been discussed on the list, but I have never used them. The stove and fridge are very thrifty. Go on a camping trip for a week, use them as normal, fill up again and you will soon have an idea how long it lasts.
