All this talk gave me an idea. Why not build a nice table out of 1/2" to 3/4" plywood (oak would look great!), the same dimensions as the engine cover mattress, with removable legs? Keep the legs in the overhead storage compartment and keep the mattress covered when you're not camping out. You could keep it face down when you're hauling hardware and face up for looks during normal everyday travel . . . I had been wondering what to do for an outside table anyway . . .
