Subject: WHy, allow me one more post?
Content-Type: text/plain

Rather than go into the emotions and the knee jerk reactions to the "WHy" thread, I would like to point out something to you folks whom I consider friends and fellow VW enthusiasts.

Always allowing for the fact that this is a Vangon list, please take a moment and look back on this mornings goings on about, shhhhh, (whisper) guns.

One fellow asked a question of a questionable content, six people actually answered the question in short order, and then dozens upon dozens of others started screaming and yelling about "no guns!" "No off topic" "Vanagon only"

If you step back and look at it rationally, who used the most bandwidth, who spent the most time ranting and raving?? Who filled the list with the most trash? Was it the questioner and the half dozen who simply answered the question, or was it the people who reacted politically to a fairly benign question?

When a fellow asks about chaning the tranny fluid in a van, if someone replies with a method we don't approve of, do we all fly off the handle and chastise the questioner, and send personal attacks to the answering parties mail box??

Don't worry, I won't hang around and say the 'g' word anymore, but it might be time to step back and take a look at ourselves and see if we can figure out why something as simplistic as a...., well, I can't say it here, causes such venimous reactions from others.

This is a human issue, and we are all humans, and we can't progress and become better citizens of the world if all some folks want to do is choose what they don't like, declare it off limits, and then attack anyone who speaks differently.

I do not apologize for answering what was a simple question, I do regret the reactions I had.

Before waxing philosophical, I am going home to pack my Vanagon for a weekend camping trip. Yes, I am taking one of those things with me :-)

Thanks for listening.

Best Regards from Utah,

John
