Subject: Audio options for a Westfalia...
Content-Type: multipart/mixed;

Does anyone have an opinion (a dumb question) about what type of audio system works well in a Westfalia?

My '87 currently has it's 4 stock speakers, and of course, those have to go. From what I can see from the outside, I don't know that I can install very large speakers in the rear AC housing, although I haven't looked inside it yet. For the doors, I am planning on replacing the stock speakers with the same-size but high-quality 2- or 3-way speakers.

I'm thinking of an in-dash CD-player with remote so that I can control it from the bed. I would also install an amplifier somewhere in the cabinetry.

The one component I'm not sure about is a CD-changer unit. Although there are plenty of spaces to hide one of these, I don't want to give up any storage space, which is my main reason for wanting to go with an in-dash unit.

My goal for a sound system would be for good sound at a reasonable volume while driving. I'm not looking to have a boombox on wheels or anything like that. This wbx van is somewhat quieter on the road than my '82 Adventurewagen, so I think that a quality head unit with a 4-way amplifier will be adequate. The CD-changer option is more for convenience, and I can go either way, but would rather retain as much storage space as I can.

Advice? Opinions? Anyone?

...Dan
