Listees; I’ve got too many cars and am trying to focus my free time, so I’m selling my 1986 Syncro GL. This has been my daily driver for the past 4 years. It is dependable and mechanically in good shape. Body has a couple bumps and rust spots/seams but not ugly. The 4WD ability of this Syncro is really impressive, has rear diff lock, the VC works. I’ve never had any problem getting around in the snow storms of the past few winters even with just M&S tires. I’m asking $4500.00.

Stats: • 1986 VW Vanagon Syncro GL (7 passenger) • Gold metallic (Savannah Beige) exterior/Tan interior-in good condition. • 161K miles, I've driven it for about 50K of these. • Motor runs well and very strong (coolant: Prestone 5/150 phosphate free; Oil 20w/50 dino changed every 3500 miles using only Mann/mahle/Knecht oil filters.) • Syncro Heavy Duty air filter. • Bosch Tri platinum plugs. • Rebuilt Tranny at 137k This was an excellent rebuild by Dennis Haynes of Long Island, NY. He replaced the 3/4 hub, bearings, part of the case and other wear items. He also painted the case (silver) before reinstalling to help prevent road salt from eating into the alloy when it gets trapped in the nooks and crannies of the case. It is filled with Redline MT-90 synthetic gear oil. Has diff lock, in working order. Clutch/TO bearing/PP replaced at this time. • Power Steering. • Recent front rotors, pads & shoes and fluid. • New Brake master cylinder @125k. • 14 in. steel wheels with 185/70/14 Goodyear Wrangler HT load range C tires with ~10k miles, stock hubcaps. • New (VW oem) front axles-complete (@130k), rebuilt rear axles-complete (@137k). • A/C - oil pissed out last summer; needs work. A/C duct/tunnel taken down (well, it fell down and I liked the increased head room, so I left it off.) • Cruise Control-not working. • Sony AM/FM Cassette w/4 Sony speakers. •Bosch Fog lights mounted to top of bumper, illuminated switch on dash.

I also have parts from a parts syncro (‘87, same color), like a fold down rear seat and a couple 2.1L motors so if you want a package deal, lets talk.

It’s funny how offering my Syncro up feels a little like offering my beloved dog up for adoption. Get in touch if you have a warm, loving home for good little bus that likes to get muddy sometimes.
