I don't know if there is a "best method". One could , depending on the size of the tear, use a standard whip stitch to bind the two sections together. Another option would be to use fiberglass screen door fabric to sew on a patch ovre the afflicted area. Still yet another option is to use duct tape as a temporary repair. And last, you could visit a specialty outdoor retailer and buy yourself some "no-see-um" netting by the yard and and replace the entire thing. The benefit of the latter is more pest control as the weave is tighter than the stock netting. Soon, I'm going to replace all stock netting with the no-see-um type. The coolest option would be to get a new three window canvas and put no-see-um netting in before installing. (This is what I'd really like to do!)
