<< I am the proud owner of a 1983 Vanagon L camper van, this is the first one I have ever owned and have started working on repairing small things on it. One of the things I'm trying to figure out is how to remove the dash to replace the light for the clock and fuel and temp gage cluster. I have not started just removing screws, thinking there must be a way to do.

one other question is about the aux battery that fits under the drivers seat, at least that is what I think that space is for. does it take a standard battery or a smaller size and where to I connect it into the system. >>

remove the speedo cluster cover, there are 2 indentions at the rear of cover, lift up on them. you can get to the bulbs now. as far as a batt, there never was a stock dual batt system on any vanagon westys, but you can buy a wiring kit from busdepot.com (i think ron sells them?) to add a deep cycle marine batt under the drivers seat. the only westy's that had the stock dual batt setup were the '74-'79 deluxe westys.
