Subject: Re: European vs. US specs
Comments: To: Kent Christensen <lkchris@USWEST.NET>

Hello to my knownledge the buses are german spec and never go back to the states. They are auctioned off here in germany by DMRO which auctions all old military equipment. I have been to some sales. Some good stuff also lots of junk. Buses are cheap over here. I paid 500$ for mine it had a blown tranny but I got one from the Airforce base stripyard for 60$ I know you need to change a few things. The buses were carbed till the late 80's. Mine is a german spec 85 carbed 1.8L waterboxxer. So you have to deal with the CAT problem they have none and something with the doors and windows.

On a business trip to Germany in 1992 I saw several obviously USA-spec Vanagons on military bases. Should be no problem, as Dave Nielsen says. BTW my business was at Patch Barracks, and the day we were there was when Shelly--- (impossible to spell) replaced Colin Powell as head of US NATO forces or some such. Transportation for all dignitaries was Vanagons (Transporters). Big line of them--it was cool.
