David,
I suspect most people are using the phrase 'dim lighting' to mean poor
lighting on the road; not actual dim lights as in bulbs that are not getting
enough juice and looking dim when you look at the headlight.

On my 90 I went through the trouble of measuring the voltage and doing the
calculations and there wasn't enough drop to justify new wiring and
relays.... Installing E-Codes with H-4 bulbs did the trick with stock
wiring. The problem with the rectangular headlights is simply the design of
the reflector... it wastes about half of the lumens by dispersing the into
the night and not putting them on the road... The E-Codes take about the
same number of lumens and put them on on the road where you need the... In
addition the sharp cut off of the E-Code design keeps light from being
reflected back into your face by rain, snow, etc.
