Jim,

The fact that you would be working for the DOD makes things entirely different. In that case you would be able to register your vehicle with the U.S. Military/DOD plates. You wouldn't even have to mess with the German system. As a matter of fact, I bought both of my Westies from DOD teachers. The first was an 83.5 (German specs) and the one we currently have is an 85 (U.S. specs). We bought the 85 from the original owner who brought it over here with him in '87.

BTW, I'm in Hanau. Been stationed here for going on 6 years now, so the Army says it's time to move on. Looks like the next stop will be Georgia.....
