It really comes down to your personal preferences regarding the layout and a high top versus a pop top.

I have had both. I converted a '68 Westy to a high top, and now have an '84 Westy. I miss the extra storage of the high top, I could carry a ton of stuff up there (although I had to install 1 1/4" sway bars on the front and rear to drive it!) and have plenty of room for the kids down below, but I don't miss being excluded from parking garages!

The pop top compromise gives you a real daily driver that you can also go camping with, and the high top version gives you maximum camping/travel convenience. Ed Anderson of Adventurewagon virtually invented the high top VW van in the '70's to meet his own needs for a serious travel/camping vehicle that was efficient and economical.

Both designs are high quality and functional. If I were you I'd buy the Adventurewagon since they are pretty rare, and if you don't like it you can easily sell it and buy a much more common Westy.

Have fun! -- Stuart MacMillan Manager, Case Program 800-909-8244 ext. 8208 Fax: 206-269-6360
