You are right about that. A loaded Westy should have a stronger tire but
these have the same specs as the Michelin LTX M+S of the same size. I
know several people using the Kirkland and I have used the Michelin. The
extra sidewall ply that these tires have gives the steering a more
precise feel and reduces the wandering in crosswinds. It is hard to find
tires as good for the $48 + $7 installation that Costco charges. I wish
we had more choices in M+S rated tires but they get pricey quick.

Rules of Thumb for Vanagon Tires
1. Get tires that can hold at least the maximum pressure listed on the
door sticker.
2. Get tires that have at least 2 SIDEWALL plys.
3. Keep the tires properly inflated and always check again before long
trips.
