Was the term 'Vanagon' ever used in germany? I was under the impression they still use the term 'bus' - pronouced 'Bou-ssss'

How about Volkswagen? I seem to remember it pronounced 'Fulks-vagen' from a german lady I met on a plane. There is also a short form: VW, but we say 'vee-double-u', they say 'Fao-vé' (can't think of a way to write how to pronouce the french 'é' in english...to sound german...)
