Well, I chickened, and did the easy way out! I sold the Syncro to the same Vanagon mechanic that was interested in buying it from me in the first place.

We discussed the tranny, I thought I maybe could dunk 10.000 crowns (~ US$ 1200) into the tranny and sell it for 20.000 crowns (that's what the car is worth here with a good tranny) or he could buy it for 10.000 and fix the tranny himself. He would rather fix the tranny himself, and that also saves me from doing a job I have no experience with. He told me that he would do a complete job, replacing all the bearings etc. I asked for the broken parts, I am a bit curious :-)

All in all, I'm sorta glad the tranny broke before I sold it, not two weeks after! That would leave me with a very guilty conscience, even though I couldn't help it. You see, the buyer is a close friend of my sister's, and that would put me in a kinda bad light.

So there you have it, I am now officially Vanagon and Syncro-less! But who knows, one day I may end up in a Vanagon or Eurovan of some sorts after all, and you'll be (almost) the first to know!

I'm a bit disappointed that it sorted out this way, when I first decided to sell it, but wo knows what life brings? Luckily not me!

PerL 87 Syncro no more :-(
