Yes, we all got it. :(

Pure, unadulterated SPAM.

Considering that this is the second time in 3 days that we have all been
spammed, maybe we need to make a change to help stop it.

You see, the Vanagon mail list is an "open" mail list. You don't have to be
subsribed to the list in order to use it. That means *anybody* can send an
e-mail message to "vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com" and it will get distributed to
all 800+ members.

I can set the server up so that only subscribed listmembers can post
messages. While that would help stop SPAM messages, it may also make it
harder for non-members to ask questions. And we do see that from time to
time - Sort of  those "Hi, I'm not on the list but can you tell me why my
Van does this funny thing?" messages.

This would be a major change in policy, and i won't enact it without some
feeedback first. How about those interested *p-mail* me at
tcarrington@relitech.com and I will report back in a week or so with the
number of those for/against. I'll also discuss it with Ron (Coyote), the
list co-administrator.
