Subject: fuel tank sender same on 83.5 as 85 and later?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"
To rehash and old question:
Is the gas gauge sending unit in my 83.5 the same as the sender in the later
model busses. There was a list discussion a few weeks back that quoted a
later Bentley than I have as listing the volts(?) that the sender sends out
when empty is different for the 83.5 - 84 verses the 85-later. (the volts
were the same at full I think) I'm no expert so the difference may be
negligible. My goal is to get the most accurate gauge reading on the fuel
level.
I was thinking that since I have to drop the gasoline tank to replace the
weeping vent lines in the next few weeks I would replace the sender to
accomodate the later model instrument pod I installed--this would (in theory)
match the gauge to the sender. But I see while looking for the part number in
Rocky Mountain Motor Works catalogue the sending unit they list is the same
for 80-88 Vanagons up to ch#24 J 003006. The sender Part # 251 919 051E
So it seems changing the sender is not necessary.
Anyone know about this one? And since RMMW lists only up to 88 what's the
difference after 88?
TIA
Jeff
