Subject: Making my own replacement carpets... anything I should know?

The carpets in my '91 Multivan are worn on and I want to replace them. I haven't been able to find replacement carpets (not mats... the basic carpet system). I found a chunk of carpet down at the local carpet shop that looks pretty good... heavy duty commercial carpeting... black with lots of specks of color throughout. My plan is to remove the original carpeting and send it with the new chunk of carpeting to a local company that cuts and stitches edging so that the... uh... well, the edges are stitched. (yawn). Anyone know of a flaw in that plan? Will there be a problem if the new carpet is thicker?
