I am new to the list, and thought I would try to offer something worthwhile, or at least semi-worthwhile. I recently purchased an 87 Syncro GL--90K. As purchased the most pressing problem, was the exhaust. About the only part worth saving was the catalytic converter, so I decided to try one of the systems now available from S&S header. I got mine thru California Imports--$300USD. Includes everything but the converter.

It is now installed and so far I am satisfied. It is slightly louder than what I think stock was, and has a nice throaty sound. I ask my mechanic about how difficult it was to install, and he did use the "B" word, but also said it was not any more of a problem than other header type systems he had done. The fixturing for the welding in the manufacturing process is critical, and it was not perfect on these pipes.

The only defect I have observed is that one of the pipes is just touching the brush guard that runs under the engine. It is not much of a problem to me, as I only need to get up my hill in the winter, and will not be doing any off road excursions. It looks to be easily fixable, I plan to take the guard off and weld a little material at the rear mounting points to drop it down slightly for more clearance at the pipe.
