While the coolant system pressurizes, that is because fluid as it heats increases in volume. Since this is a closed system, the coolant has nowhere to go so it pressurizes. It will pressurize until it hits the release value of the blue (or black) cap on the overflow tank or it hits a constant temperature. Hence a system will presurize up to about 7 lbs I believe. What I was refering to is compression continually entering the coolant system therefore always pressurizing the system well beyond the 7 lb limit. It will then pump all that coolant out the overflow tank unless there is another weak spot in the system. I replaced the motor and the problem has gone away. I am in the process of removing the heads (no easy task) on the old motor to see if I can salvage it. tim o'brien Sudhir Desai wrote: > > just curious, but isn't there always nice amounts of > pressure in the coolant, and that's why the overflow > tank is there? > > i'm a "pressure in the coolant" virgin, so please > excuse my ignorance. > > ===== > Sudhir Desai > desa4622@kettering.edu desa4622@yahoo.com > 1984 Vanagon 3.4l v-6 1996 Jetta Trek > icq# 17014903 > > __________________________________________________ > Do You Yahoo!? > Yahoo!
