hi folks, i'm back after far too long an abscense to imurse myself in your generous wisdom. i will be receiving a '90 vanagon from a friend later this week that needs a complete engine rebuild (cracked head(s)). since i've not undertaken a vw project of this magnitude before, i thought i'd seek the advice of the list. basically, i'm looking for any advice that you have to give that you feel would be useful to pass along, or direction to articles on this topic previously discussed. i know my way around the vanagon, and have dealt quite a bit with the (gulp) air-cooled, so i'm not starting from ground zero by any means. but, then again, just when you think you know something, or think there's continuity somewhere... so any help regarding: step by step instructions that may be floating around tools needed caution items (don't forget this, or don't do this before this) procedure tips reliable local machine shops (i'm in utah) what parts need to be machined decoder ring/translator for the Bently manual any useful bit of knowledge at all i appreciate any time you could spare on this. this will be my summer project and my _ss if i don't get it out of the garage by fall. as usual, you guys are great and i'm glad to be part of this whole family. tony '87 GL (lost to fire) '90 GL (running like a champ) '90 GL (hoping to resurrect)
