if I ever > get around to it (probably won't) I'll mount them directly on top of the > cluster with a quick disconnect plug for the wiring. Karl, I chose the top of the cluster cover too.... I figured it was the only place that I would actually look at/notice the gauges while driving down the road... figured if I wasn't going to notice them it wasn't worth installing them! I mounted my gauges on top of the cluster and didn't have to use any disconnect plugs for the wiring... Just forward of where the forward edge of the cluster cover meets the dash I drilled holes in the metal (one for each gauge). I put grommets in the holes and wires through the grommets to the gauges. Used velcro to attach the gauges to the top of the cluster cover.... Then in order to get to the instrument wiring just pull the gauges off the velcro and move them to the side and lift off the cluster cover.... easy.... there are I believe 5 or 7 wires that go just to the oil pressure gauge.... that would be a lot of connectors and look pretty funky... and each connection is a potential wiring problem.
