Subject: Michelin Agilis - the Final chapter !
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"
Remember the handling problem on my "87 Westy since I installed a set of
those Michelin Agilis ? The problem has been resolved ! FINALLY ! Back in
December I ordered a set of Michelin Agilis 61's. The tires that came and
installed were Agilis 81's. Van handled terribly, wandering left and right.
Michelin guys kept telling me it's not the tires, lower the air pressure,
change the air pressure, 61's and 81's are the same, no 61's available in
Canada, no other tires from Michelin available, and probably a few stories I
don't remember. Last week one of their hotshot mechanics takes the Van for a
ride and comes back totally freaked out saying that he would not drive the
Van, "it's dangerous" WOW ! How about that ! So the counter guy does some
more phoning around and finds a set of Michelin LXT's. They were put on
Thursday and the Van now handles and rides perfectly ! Voila ! No more
wandering, no more harsh ride, no more Mac Truck syndrome. Just a nice
smooth ride and tracking in a straight line even in windy conditions. The
freakin' Michelin 81's were TOO stiff ! Load range D ! Just what I been
trying to tell them all along and they kept saying no way, can't be too stiff
! Ha ! So forget those Michelin Agilis ! Maybe the 61's are all right but
I will never know. No way to get them here. I got the LXT's on there now
and they seem to be just perfect ! One SMALL side note to end the five month
long drama. When I took it out on the road for a test drive after the LXT's
were installed there was a steering wheel vibration at around 120 km/HR. It
was too late to go back. So the Van had to go back the following day to get
the tires balanced AGAIN ! So, in total I had to make five 40 km road trips
to the Michelin dealer, costing me a day off work each time to get a set of
proper tires on my '87 Westy. What a man won't do for his beloved Westy !
Cheers
