Well, It could depend on how long you mean by 'for awhile'. STA-BIL is the way to go if 'awhile' is less than it's effective life... probably about a year. I would be reluctant to run the engine until the tank is empty... first, like another post mentioned, you will suck up the dregs at the bottom of the tank. second, and empty tank could be subject to condensation that would deposit moisture in the tank..x Over the winter I fill the tank and put in STA-Bil... that way the fuel doesn't break down and the condensation is minimized because a full tank leaves little room for air, the feed for condensation.
