Some advice: Find a vanagon mechanic who is also a smogger or who knows one. That is how I get mine (all 3) through Bay area emissions. He goes down and tweaks it as the smog guy does the tests off line. You can request that the smog test be done first without the hookup to the DMV. If it passes, you repeat the test. If not, you take it away to be fixed. Keeps your van from becoming a "Gross Polluter"... not a good thing.
