Richard, A soft clutch pedal release will induce clutch chatter even on a new clutch and over time it become a permanent, ever present, do it every shift problem. A slow or soft release allows the clutch disc to spin against the flywheel and this will induce chattering. Once the disk is damaged, you must replace it. Maybe even have the flywheel resurfaced.

The only solution to avoid the problem in the first place is to be very concious of making a sharp, positive clutch pedal release, with the gasoline to the engine applied appropriately.
