The AC ducts are a tube that rests against the head liner, which is an inch or so thick with padding, and are supported at the joints.

You could remove the duct install the sun roof, but use one that has two rear latches that are wide enough to clear the duct rather than the ones that have a single center latch.  Use a thin frame rather than thick frame model sun roof.
