If you drove out in the middle of nowhere and had this problem and then had to hold or tie the shifter in gear for the trip home: A. Would this work? B. Would this do some terrible damage to the tranny and should not be tried even as an emergency proceedure?

I have heard of people doing this just to get home, but I wanted Dayrll's opinion of it.
