    Bill, I have these plastic covers on my '87 Westy.  Since two~three years
and no problems.  Never have come off and never been stolen (oops, should not
have said that 'cause now I woke up the thieves).  Yes, they do fit loosely
and slide easily left and right and do pop off easily but mine have never
come off while travelling.
