The best tranny gear oil in my opinion is the Redline and specifically MT90 for the Vanagon's. This comes from being mostly neutral or indifferent years ago to believing the difference in longevity is significant....Tranny's that I tear down for rebuild that have used Redline have less wear and are much cleaner than any using "dino" oils. Seal leakage doesn't seem to be a problem as long as the seal's aren't ready to puke at any moment already. In that case just changing the oil with the same type may cause leakage... Redline MT90 has proven itself to me...easier shifting & longer lasting...what more could you want in an oil...
