If shifting is tough, before you change the lube, check the grease in the "ball and socket" at the transmission end of the linkage. If memory serves, 2 or 3 bolts attaching the linkage to the tranny will open up this ball and socket. Even with a new rubber boot to keep the dirt and water out, I still find that I have to clean and relube this annually. When old, the grease in this linkage becomes contaminated and and the consistency of gritty paste. Shifting suffers accordingly.
