Harold, > My wife and I will be heading from Virginia to the Atlantic Provinces later > this week for a three to four week trip. I'm really jealous! :-) > In preparation, we have put the van in what we hope is great shape, have > printed the recommended repair shop listing from the Vanagon.com site Get the ones from my site as well: http://www.enter.net/~bloss/vw/vwshops/ > This will be our first trip to the Atlantic Provinces and our travel > schedule is wide open. Our initial thought is to take the ferry from > Portland, Maine to Nova Scotia and start our exploration from there. This is a nice way to go. We did this about 4 years ago. Spring for the cabin if you can swing it. Be prepared to spend lots of time in the Portland parking lot waiting in line. Not so bad though...always folks to talk to. Plus in a VW, you've got everything you need. > We would be appreciative for any hints, advice on great places to stay, must > see sites, etc. Like most of you, we love driving down scenic roads, going > to quaint places, staying in beautiful camping areas, and avoiding the large > crowds. Of course, we do realize that many times there are large crowds > because there is something wonderful to see or do. We found no large crowds anywhere, except Halifax, so we skipped that. Take your time ambling up the coast and poking into little villages. Lunenberg and Peggy's Cove are known for their beauty, but there are lots of other places. We drove up to Cape Breton Island...breathtaking views.
