According to my Bently, 86 and newer Vanagon ACs need 50.75 oz of Freon. Freeze-12 recommends 90 percent of the Freon charge which would be 45.675 oz. I used approx 45 ounces and like the results. The Freeze-12 that I aquired came in 12 oz cans so I had a little left in the 4th can. I don't know the required charge for the 85 and older Vanagons (Bently always seems to be at the other location) but with the smaller compressor and shorter hoses I think it is less. Just guessing, but I don't think you can put 84 oz of Freeze-12 in a Vanagon. Ken would know.
