OK, I consider myself pretty mechanical and usually an electronic wiz-kid so I am baffled and second guessing whats going on. Help listees! My 89 Syncro Westy has developed a surging idle when it is cold. It starts just fine in a 1/4 turn and idles fine and about 5~10 seconds into the cold start. Then the idle surges from 1500 rpm to 500 rpm. If I try to take off normally the engine drops to a low idle without power. I rev it up and its all OK and I can take off like a rabbit (well ya know what I mean). But the idle remains surging until the engine starts warming up. I've checked every component that I could and it all looks good considering the 111K miles on the engine. When the engine warms up everything is fine and it idles around 1000 rpm ready to unleash the 90 or so horse without any surging. I give up! where should I look! help! Coughingly yours Joel 89 Syncro Westy "CinnabarVan" Rochester NY.
