Well, Wes, at least your switche sticks in the up position. Mine liked to stick in the down position before I finally swapped the front two so the bad switch was temporarily "covered" by the driver's side switch. All the switches need to be in or none of the switches work.

I've taken the high use one apart several times, cleaned it, lubed it and put it back together (that's a real trick...wife holds 2 .010 feeler guages in the side while I push straight down). It sounds great, feels great...and works only sometimes. Maybe the contact is bent. But it does seem getting new ones like Peter suggested, or cheap used ones from the passenger side of some vehicle and resoldering the wires might make sense. I even tried putting my spare passenger side one into the driver's side and there is so much extra wire it didn't want to go back together.

The legs break off, too, so I screwed a little plastic plate on the back to catch behind the door.

Fun with Vanagons.

Cheers, Tom Neal '87 with a brand new Luk clutch (thanks, BusDepot), and worn shifting parts...next project.
