In an Audi that I owned before my first Vanagon, there was an arrow light like this. It was not an upshift light, nor a economy light. It was only lit when I stood on the throttle, where the economy light would be lit of you ease off the throttle. After a couple weeks, I paid notice to it no more.

Oh, that car was an '84 80 quattro, known as the 4000 in the US.
