i dunno about how well it works, according to these people, "Excess air may be added to the combustion chamber to get more radical oxygen, O= to oxidize the CO to CO2. This can reduce the CO to 1% or less. However, this excess air does NOT reduce total unburned fuel (pollution), because the extra air inside the combustion chamber is parasitic and cools the flame. As the temperature of the flame drops, fewer hydrocarbons (HC) crack, raising the amount of unburned HC in the exhaust gases and obviously not helping to increase miles per gallon. Extra air slows down the burning process so some of the fuel is burning to late in the stroke to be beneficial. "

why are there superchargers and turbochargers that "excess air" to the combustion chamber and produce prodigous amounts of power?

oh well... my $.02 worth
