The aerodynamics of the top are a consideration. In my case I haven't encountered any problems with my Adventurewagen compared to my former same year Westfalia. Since all vans have larger surface areas it's a good idea to exercise more caution (or awareness) when driving through windy areas or when encountering the slipstream of a large truck. And when I say caution I'm not talking about slow speed, where permitted I drive in the 65-75 mph range.
