I don't know the Jetta's of MX production, but in German Jetta's, this sensor is hidden deep inside the dash, behind the center console. In addition, I believe it is supposed to sit in the middle of the vehicle to ensure correct movement input from any direction of travel. The sensor is too sensitive to be placed in the middle of the driver's footwell, any small kick or bang, and pop goes the airbag.
