For the sake of conversation, I realize that the catalyst is there, and I'm sure that it would pass a sniffer test when fully warmed-up. My understanding though is that you can change the header or manifold before the cat, or the exhaust after the cat, but the gummint says, the cat must stay where it was when the vehicle was approved for sale in the US. I think that's why S&S had to go to such trouble with their header to put the collector on the left side of the vehicle. It's probably also why you'll never find any of our supplier friends importing the Ahnendorp header and selling it here.

Like I said, I'm not worried about this issue, I would use the Ahnendorp header. However, if for instance, you should sell this Vanagon with the cat in a different location to a dealer, and that dealer discovers the emission controls have been tampered with, you could find yourself in some trouble.
