Subject:      teeth on water pump/alternator belt all chewed up on 87 Wolfsburg

Hi List,


        Maybe someone can help me!  I am going to be buying my 3rd water
pump/alt. belt in less than 2000 miles!  The teeth keep  getting chewed up on
it.  I was told i can use a Gates 7430 belt, so that is what i have been
using.   Is this belt ok? Or should i get an authentic VW?(Michelin?) belt?
Should there be teeth on the belt to begin with?  I have heard that that is
the new style, as the old belts were solid but made the engine run hotter.  I
am supposed to be headed out for the weekend and need to fix this thing
before i leave tomorrow afternoon!
