I had the pleasure or replacing the LOW pressure hose for th AC in my
89 Westy. The low pressure hose had rubbed against the engine
compartment and worn a hole through. It needed a full replacement
and new chemicals.
I learned by looking at the Bentley book and dismantling the
cabinets.
Everything is easy to remove. You have to remove, or be able to
slide over/sideways the cabinet to get to the hoses and electrical
where the big 30 amp fuse resides. That part is Ok and you can
loosen most of that.
The pita is removing all the shrouds in the front of the AC and
eventually dropping the AC condenser and platform to get to loosen
and tighten the new hoses.
Lots of screws to keep track of. Careful not to damage the 2 ceramic
resistors while dangling.
Now the fun begins in attempting to relocate the AC assembly back up
in the platform and locate the platform and all the hoses back nice
and snug in the alocated space.
I used both of my kids to prop up the AC assembly/platform (one in
the front on in the back) while I found the hole locations to insert
the retaining bolts. They complained that it was hot and too heavy.
Ok once reassembled I took it to an AC shop and they said that for
this size of a AC circuit and the capacity to cool such a big van,
that the old stuff should be used. The new stuff would also require
changing the compressor $$. So I opted for the ozone depleting r12
stuff. It has been flawless ever since eventhough the compressor
squeels like pig.
Hope this helps,
Joel
