Umm, that is ridiculous. I'm subscribed to over a dozen mailing lists. I've used the Internet since the early 90's and have worked in the industry since 96. It is defacto standard to put the actual sender in the From: field. Otherwise it's impossible to reply directly to the sender. Believe it or not, you don't ALWAYS want your message to go to the entire list...
