I just purchased the R134a conversion kit at the local Auto Zone. One of two things happened. I either screwed up badly or the kit is not made with the Vanagon/Sandin 508 in mind. First of all, none of the high-side adapters fit. Then the only low-side adapter that fit damaged the Shroeder valve on my line. The adapter is too deep and depressed the valve to the point of collapse. I, of course, did not notice this until the oil can would not empty into the system. So now I am stuck with a damaged Shroeder valve, an easy fix, lots of lost sleep and hope that Auto Zone will see my side of the story and refund me my money. I am off tomorrow in search of an A/C shop that both works on Volkswagens and is open on Saturdays. A challenge indeed in this town. Perhaps then I'll be able to finally leave for the beach. Eeegh. |
