I'm actually hosting the pictures from the user on freds tdi forum. You
can few the pictures on my web site. See my signature for the address

I have to make some corrections here concerning this topic.
1. TP will remove acid upto a point, it helps while a normal filter
does nothing in this area.
2. You still dump the oil, you just keep it in much longer. This allows
you to make using expensive synthetic oil more cost effective.
Synthetic oil will not turn to sludge since it doesn't oxidize like
normal dino oils - as easily at least. Also the additive packages in
good synthetic oils ( NOT ALL ) are much beefier since they are
designed for extended use.
3. Its just common sense. Better filtering equals less engine wear.
4. You don't have to worry about oil pressure, since you still keep the
orginal oil filter. This is called a bypass system. Oil still goes
through the normal filter, but some oil bypasses and is filtered in the
lower micron depth filter. That way as the filter gets closer to
needing to be changed it doesn't starve the engine of oil.
5. Depth filters come in all different kinds. TP filters must be
changed OFTEN, and since you top up your oil when you change the filter,
this becomes another reason why you can extend the oil drain time -
your always adding some new oil ( changing filter every 3000 miles, add
500 ml of new oil ). Larger commercial depth filters, like the ones
from amsoil get changed at much longer drain intervals.
This stuff works. If it didn't they would not be used by large OTR
trucks. Large engine manufacturers will extend your warrenty if you
choose the option of using the optional depth bypass filter systems
they offer. Engines that normally see a million miles of use, will
normally see double that life span between rebuilds, and the cost
savings in oil very quickly pays for the optional filtering, after only
a few oil changes...
It just doesn't always make sense for us, since we don't keep our cars
for those kinds of miles...our engines usually outlast the body of the
cars, or die from something else that better filtering wouldn't help.
On my site you can see the oil analysis data that the owner did to make
sure he was okay extending his oil drain times.
