I found out through my searches for a hitch that U-Haul sells a hitch for
the Vanagon.  It's supposed to be $109 installed and your bumper mounts over
the hitch. I think it has a 2000 or 1500 lb capacity.


I would not drill through the bumper and trust it to withstand the
continuous loads it would experience while pulling a trailer, no matter how
small.

Does anyone know if you can drill through the bumper and attach a step
bumper receiver hitch?  Would this be safe to pull a small trailer?  Would
the bumper be strong enough to hold.  I have a  84 Vanagon with a original
