Dear Volks,

I converted my '84 GL a couple of years ago. I live in hot and steamy SE Alabama. The system worked quite well with R134a, until the compressor fittings worked loose. I've never been able to keep those fittings tight. I've tried Loctite as well. It seems that engine motion is bound to work the fittings loose. This is an annual problem for me, not a fault of the R134a.

It's been a really hot summer here, so I'm thinking about trying again. It takes 3 lbs. of R134a.

Sincerely,

John Hung Auburn, AL '84 GL '86 BMW 325e '97 Chevy Suburban (with dual A/C, but less real space than the Vanagon)
