Our cooling fan did the same thing.  Sounded like a small plane taking off.
Last winter when having a deer hit repaired, the body shop said that they
had repaired a piece of the cardboard "surround" near the cooling fan that
clearly had been sucked into the fan.  Since I did't do it, I can't describe
the repair but it can't be difficult.
